Stephen Gallagher
Stephen joined the practice as an Associate Director in 2023 bringing significant experience of leading teams on large-scale and complex urban regeneration projects including the Victoria Square mixed-used development and the new Ulster University Campus in Belfast.
He was formerly a director of multi-disciplinary firm, BDP, one of Europe’s largest architectural practices, where he was involved in the design and delivery of projects across a variety of sectors including education, offices, transport, and retail. He has won multiple awards for his built work in practice, alongside several design awards for his private work, both theoretical and built.
Stephen has maintained an interest in teaching throughout his career and has taught in the schools of architecture at both Ulster and Queens Universities in Belfast. He is currently a part-time tutor within the Belfast School of Architecture at the UU in a studio which undertakes a broad exploration of the creative basis for building design with a particular focus on environmentally responsible architecture.
Outside of practice and teaching, Stephen has made significant contributions to the profession as former chair of the RSUA Practice Services Scheme, the NI judge for the RIAI Travelling Scholarship and as a local representative for the RIBA design awards. He continues to contribute to local architectural discussion with contributions to the local architectural press in the form of building reviews and technical articles.
