Hillsborough Exchange Shopping Centre, Repurposing, Sheffield

Hillsborough Exchange is an 80,000sqft indoor shopping centre, that serves the local town, a few miles north of the Sheffield City Centre.

The Centre, enclosed by Home Bargains, Boots and Wilkos, continues to trade well, with a footfall of 100,000 people per week. However, its owners, Killultagh, identified an opportunity to reconfigure part of the retail offer, the centres car parking and an adjoining site, and bring forward a residential development.

Working closely with the local planning department, the practice secured permission for a five storey apartment development, targeted specifically to address identified housing need in the social and affordable tenures in the community.
