Southern Regional College, Banbridge, Co. Down

The new Southern Regional College in Banbridge, County Down, is part of a planned programme of redevelopment of Northern Ireland’s Higher Education Colleges.

It has a focus predominantly on media, with the new facility including adaptable teaching spaces, photography studios, art and graphics design room, 3-D workshops, CAD / CAM workshops, ICT workshops and a radio and motion capture studio, together with other support, ancillary and social accommodation.

The practice completed the detail design and delivery of the building for contractor O’Hare & McGovern, within a very demanding 18-month contract period, under an NEC Option 3 contract.

The use of BIM modelling was a core requirement, not only for the construction to ensure effective coordination, but also for the College themselves, where the project was used as part of their teaching programme.

The requirement extended to 4-D BIM and included the model sequenced to the construction programme and real time progress against programme reporting.
