The Gate, PBSA, Sheffield
The Gate has established a new standard for Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) in Sheffield.
Located in the Cultural Industries Quarter, a previously neglected area in the city centre, the 500 bed, 21 storey development has become a striking new addition to the city’s skyline.
The living accommodation mixes differing sizes of cluster units, with a number of individual studios, carefully laid out to maximise views out over the city or into a landscaped courtyard. Amenities range from communal study areas, to a gym, cinema and roof top terrace.
The scheme was adopted from RIBA Stage 3 with the complex scheme design taken through the detail design development and delivery with contractor McAleer & Rushe.
BIM modelling was a critical tool not only in ensuring effective coordination of structure, services and fabric, but also in allowing three dimensional views of the accommodation to be produced, greatly assisting in design reviews with the operator Fresh Student Living.
