Woodside Logistics Group HQ, Ballynure

Woodsides, one of Northern Ireland’s leading haulage and distribution companies, appointed the practice to bring forward proposals for a new office HQ in 2016.

A fundamental aspect of the brief and layout was the relationship of the office staff and the drivers. The plan was developed to have a dedicated ‘drivers stair’ at one end of the building with a central primary internal office stair. The departments (such as haulage and distribution) are located to the drivers hatch, located off the drivers stair.

Central support spaces allow shared use between the departments. The main Depot access from the office has an dedicated office staff area with PPE / locker area, with small meeting rooms for the drivers. This carefully organised arrangement was developed through workshops and a close engagement with the client.

The built form is derived from the plan arrangement, with two pitched roof elements sitting above the office spaces, separated by a flat roof section that is located above the shared / ancillary accommodation.

The external treatment combines staggered storey height panels of glazing and grey / white facing brick.
